Real estate for sale in Chapel Hill North Carolina
Chapel Hill is a town of
approximately 18 square miles with a population of over 53,000 people,
counting students. It occupies parts of Orange, Durham and Chatham
Counties in North Carolina. One of the main attractions is the
University of North Carolina. The 729 acre campus is the site of the
oldest State University in the United States. The cornerstone of the
first student dormitory, “Old East,” was laid October 12,
1793. The dormitory is still in use today. Of course many people know
of the University because of the national preeminence of its
men’s basketball team – The Tar Heels. They have won four
NCAA national championships. Coaches Dean Smith, Roy Williams and
basketball great Michael Jordan are just three of the many nationally
recognized sports figures associated with the University.
Only 30 minutes from Chapel Hill is
Duke University and North Carolina State University. The level of
education and sophistication of the average citizen is extremely high.
So are their demands. Almost one hundred excellent restaurants cater to
their tastes. That includes, in the center of town, what may be the
best restaurant in the entire Triangle, Bonne Soiree. If one’s
demands include golf, The Chapel Hill Country Club is available in the
middle of town and the incomparable 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Governors
Club course is ten minutes away. The superb North Carolina Symphony
performs a regular schedule at Memorial Hall. This schedule has
included home-town “boy” James Taylor. The list of other
entertainment possibilities is literarily endless in Chapel Hill.
Chapel Hill’s charm comes from
the beautifully preserved homes of faculty, staff and townspeople
dating from the early 1800’s. The center of town is designated as
the Franklin-Rosemary Historic District. The homes of note include,
among many, the Widow Pucket House 1817, the Hooper-Kyser House 1814
and the Presbyterian Manse 1847.
The real estate market is robust and
varied. Sixty homes have been sold in the last thirty days. Prices have
ranged from $64,250 to $1,490,955.
There are still some very attractive
properties on the market but you need a local market expert to help you
separate the “wheat from the chaff.” Jerry King, Broker
Meadowmont Realty of Chapel Hill, has been in town since the Raleigh
Durham International Airport was a single building and they threw your
bags out on the tarmac.
